Quyen - Personal Bio

Quyen was born in 1961 in Vietnam and lived there until she immigrated to the U.S. She came to the U.S. and to Portland in late September of 2002. She attended university in Vietnam and was a successful businesswoman there, owning a restaurant and jewelry shop.

She decided to come to the U.S. because the man who would become her husband moved here and because she reported that she wanted her children to get a university education in the U.S.

In 2006, she proudly reported that she had just passed the citizenship test and continued to express very positive feelings about her experiences studying English at Portland Community College and the Lab School. Though she was working in 2006, told the interviewer that she "promised" that she would continue taking English courses ("ENL") when she had time.

Q:and later I pass and I took lice- driver license. And I more c- confident.
And la- uh last week, I take a test uh and I go to citizen so I'm happy. (3) And now, um my family so happy because I go to citizen and my younger daughter she under 18 years old and she have to go to citizen too. (5) Now I I I feel more confident and I so happy. I live here and some day I have time, I go to the PCC and I will take the the ENL uh last um this- uh this program will be uh will be uh (.) happy uh learn more English. I promise. I have time I go to the PCC. Thank you for my interview today.
